The world’s most limited production piano, Steingraeber and Söhne handcrafts only 50 grand pianos per year for the entire world. Building on Steingraeber’s brilliant combination of superior materials, exceptional design and perfect workmanship, a Steingraeber prepared by PianoCraft becomes an unrivaled instrument of musical expression.

Steingraeber has succeeded in the most difficult of piano manufacturing challenges in creating instruments that are true extensions of the human body giving the pianist direct access to dramatic power, delicate subtlety as well as all gradations in between. A Steingraeber by PianoCraft builds on that genius by enhancing the Steingraeber’s already impressive dynamic range and color variety; something unmatched in any other new piano. That’s why PianoCraft is the world’s number one Steingraeber dealer.

Our five grand piano models enjoy the benefit of more than 160 years’ experience and reflect our commitment to achieving the perfect sound: transparent, rich in overtones and extremely versatile. You will find a more-detailed description of the dynamic resonating materials we use under ‘Production Principles’. Our pianos have almost unlimited endurance.

Active hitch pins on all models purposefully enhance overtones according to the ‘Mischklangprinzip’, through which tone colours are seamlessly brought together to create a unified and rich sound-world. In addition, the E-272, D-232 and C-212 models are furnished with pressure bridges (capo d’astro) to enhance the instruments’ treble range. Transparency of tone is ensured through a tightly-controlled soundboard with an expansive bass bridge, while maximum dynamic range is obtained by the use of tough, durable instrument casing which consists of up to 36 horizontal and 18 vertical layers of beech wood. Furthermore a Steingraeber speciality, the uniformly flexible, yet straight and suspensionless bass bridge, reinforces the resonant capabilities of the soundboard. All frames are designed without cross struts at the front, offering great advantages for ‘una corda’ playing, as well as for ‘extended techniques’ often called for in New Music.

Twenty percent more up-weight as well as non-slip key tops (white keys made of mineral ivory substitute – 10,000 year-old mammoth ivory is also an option – and black keys of solid ebony), make the touch and feel of our grand pianos an intuitive delight. Finally, differences in the lever lengths of black and white keys (1 gram less per black key) are equalised during counterbalancing, all of which rounds off an incomparable playing experience.

Over the last 10 years, Estonia pianos have consistently been recognized as the best value in handcrafted European pianos, costing about half the price of similarly made pianos coming from Germany. This accomplishment would satisfy any piano manufacturer, but the Estonia piano is so much more. Every piano manufacturer of integrity strives to find its own unique voice, and frankly few ever do. Estonia has found its voice – a romantic, singing voice all its own.

The Estonia Piano Company is the only current piano manufacturer owned by a genuine concert pianist, Juilliard-trained Dr. Indrek Laul. As the ownership of PianoCraft is composed of conservatory-trained pianists, we feel a special connection with the Estonia Piano Company.

PianoCraft carries all sizes of Estonia grand pianos, where they are prepared to a standard only available at PianoCraft. So, for about the price of the mass produced pianos from Asia, you can own a true, European handcrafted, limited production piano with a voice all its own.

We invite you to make an appointment to try an Estonia piano for yourself to see if it lives up to its reputation.

Baldwin is a handcrafted piano with a traditional warm and rich American voice. When prepared by PianoCraft, a new Baldwin is an unbeatable value costing less than half of what equivalent mass produced pianos of the far east normally cost.

PianoCraft is proud to be the official authorized Baldwin piano dealer for the Washington DC metropolitan area (including suburban Maryland and northern Virginia) metropolitan areas.

The American-owned Baldwin piano company’s storied history goes back more than 150 years and is rivaled in the United States only by Boston-era pre-1930 Mason & Hamlin and by Steinway. PianoCraft’s official relationship with Baldwin dates to the early 2000s when we were hired by them to do concert and artist work for Baldwin and Baldwin artists in the Baltimore – Washington DC metropolitan area at venues such as the Kennedy Center.

PianoCraft’s unofficial relationship with Baldwin, however, goes back much further. Co-owner Shaun Tirrell’s first grand piano was a handcrafted 7′ Baldwin which he personally selected at the Tanglewood Performing Arts Center. This was Shaun’s personal home instrument throughout his years at Oberlin and later at the Peabody Conservatory of Music on which he prepared for many important Competitions and concerts. At Peabody, in Julian Martin’s studio (co-owners Keith Kerman and Shaun Tirrell’s teacher) sat 2 pianos side by side: a Baldwin 7′ grand and a Steinway B (6’11”) grand. Indeed, Baldwin grand pianos could be found throughout Peabody – in practice rooms, and concert halls alike.

It’s because of this decades-long relationship that we are proud to offer new, used and rebuilt grand and upright Baldwins and their legendary rich American tone. PianoCraft offers new, used and rebuilt Baldwin Grands in all sizes including the 4’10 BP148, the 5’0 BP152, the 5’2? M, the 5’5? BP165, the 5’8? R, the 5’10” BP178 , the 6’3? L, the 6’3? BP190, the 7’SF10 and the 9′ SD10.PianoCraft offers Baldwin vertical pianos in all sizes from console to studio to upright to upright grand, including the B124, the B120, the B125, the B49, the B122, the B243, B342, B442 and the B252.

PianoCraft will also rebuild or restore your Baldwin to the highest possible standard. PianoCraft’s highly trained piano technicians are ready to tune and service your Baldwin.

Werner Albrecht, Service Director and Master Piano Maker (Klavierbaumeister) at C. Bechstein

From the moment your hands touch the Full-length Austrian spruce piano keys, with a true grand piano hammer mechanism, the Grand Hybrid delivers the authenticity your performance demands.

A revolutionary piano experience designed in collaboration with C. Bechstein and Casio. The perfect combination of tradition and innovation. From the moment your hands touch the Full-length Austrian spruce piano keys, with a true grand piano hammer mechanism, the Grand Hybrid delivers the authenticity your performance demands.

The revolutionary new Natural Grand Hammer Action keyboard is made with full-length wooden concert grand piano keys, using the same materials and processes as the C. Bechstein concert grand pianos. A keypress sends a hammer along the same vertical path as a grand piano, with the same essential weighting and pivot points, resulting in a true and uncompromising piano touch.

The Berlin Grand sound was developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein. CASIO sought a clear, balanced and elegant sound for CELVIANO Grand Hybrid. D282, C. Bechstein’s ultimate masterpiece, is the model CASIO intensively studied to achieve the goal. Mr. Albrecht, Service Director and Master Piano Maker at C. Bechstein, visited CASIO R&D to supervise the sound development process through the final modification.

“Getting closer to perfection in collaboration with C. Bechstein. There was no compromise in our development process of the distinctive character of Grand Hybrid.”
Naoaki Ito, Sound Designer at CASIO
Of course the Grand Hybrids also feature the popular and easily identifiable Hamburg grand sound (German Steinways have been manufactured in Hamburg Germany since the 1880s!) with its dramatic bass and rich overtones. Additionally, there is the convincingly authentic and unmistakable classical sound available Vienna Grand sound (Vienna Austria’s most famous piano manufacturer is the famous Boesdendorfer of course!) with its clean and refined qualites. The collaboration between C. Bechstein and CASIO created the opportunity to discover the true beauty of traditional grand pianos. With greater understanding of their fundamental elements, the approach was modified to develop new instruments that are evolutionary steps forward from other digital pianos. As the sound was expected to be perfect, the focus was not only on the tone of each individual note but also reverberation in actual musical performances. After developing higher quality keys, we worked to create a mechanism that responds to the subtle nuances of a player’s touch. The superior feel of the CELVIANO Grand Hybrid is the result of work with a persistent attitude without compromise. PianoCraft, C.Bechstein and CASIO hope everyone can try CELVIANO Grand Hybrid and enjoy the experience. Please contact PianoCraft at 301-840-5460 or mail@pianocraft.net to set up a time to audition the marvelous Celviano Grand Hybrid pianos for yourself!
